∞ the further i go in recovery, the less i avoid responsibility ∞

for myself and my actions, by applying the principles of the program, i am able to change my life.
anyhow, yes i am responsible for my recovery today, and a whole lot more! i hate taking responsibility for anything, still to this day, i love to divert, blame, rationalize and justify away any responsibility. that sounds less than hopeful i know, but to avoid the trap of false humility, i can easily say that i do this less today than i did ten years ago, or even one year ago, or even yesterday. there was a time, and perhaps it was yesterday, when i thought taking responsibility for my actions meant just saying i am sorry. in that same vein, i also thought taking responsibility for my recovery meant that all i had to do was go to a meeting every day. and perhaps that was true at that point in my life. HOWEVER, these days i understand that viewpoint is flawed on many levels. what may have been appropriate for me then, is no longer appropriate today. that is what the reading is saying to me this morning, as i grow in recovery, things change, as things change, i adjust to the new reality. that reality, this morning means that i have some things to clkean-up and some commitments to honor and more than anything else, some recovery to foster.
so it is time to move forward into my day and see what i can get done!

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS

Book 1

4) When things have attained their strong maturity they become old.
This may be said to be not in accordance with the Tao: and what is
not in accordance with it soon comes to an end.
