😏 only another addict 😉

in or out of recovery can understand and appreciate, much of what trips my trigger. i have to admit, many who have never felt the agony and ecstasy of active addiction are certainly compassionate, sympathetic and even sometimes empathetic, BUT they never get what it feels like to be an addict, clean or otherwise. they can console us and offer all sorts of “helpful” suggestions, but in the long run, i never feel the sort of connection i get when i share with my peers in recovery.
i have been thinking about the reading from yesterday, since early yesterday morning and as i sat this morning, it bubbled back up to the surface. it is true, that for me, most of my honest relationships were formed with my peers, in my early recovery. those relationships have endured over the past couple of decades, regardless of how shitty i have been. weird as it seems, i value them more than some, than those that i had when i walked into the rooms. it may seem to be a stretch, but in those relationships, i have always been the closest to being myself. now that i am exploring what being Don, actually means, i am getting more support than i ever thought was possible. anyhow, football is on, laundry needs to be done, food is on its way. so i will wrap this up and move along the dusty trail.
