α what an inspiration it was, then, coming to my first meeting …

... and seeing a room full of addicts who were staying clean! a clean addict is, indeed, a vision of hope. i hear the hope today, even after some days clean. it is ironic that i spoke about something similar the other night when i was asked to speak. not about the hope necessarily, but about how different i looked and sounded from when i walked into the rooms, and how when i saw members with time in those days, it was hard to believe that they were ever like me. of course, they had to be, but they seemed to be so together that i had trouble accepting that they ever were as messed up as i was. imagine my surprise that once the glow of those members faded and i saw them bickering and acting-out. i understand today, that they were not some kind of saints, although that was all i could hear in those days, but just human beings with faults, flaws and all the foibles of being human.
well, today, i try to be honest when i share, and i try and share recovery and not disease, but like all human beings i stumble and yes even fall. life is like that, so i have delayed fixing what needs to be fixed for long enough. it is off to the races, as ion the human race to see what i can get done today.
