and the Second Tradition, does not mean i am a defender of the FAITH, protecting my fellowship from all heretics and infidels. although there have been times in my recovery where i truly believed i needed to be. when i first started to come to the rooms, there was a single meeting of the fellowship that has become my home, in my home town. myself and one or two of my peers, dragged that meeting from a mixed message meeting, into the welcoming arms of the local service structure. because of its humble beginnings, we were adamant about the language that was used and how the meetings were ended, to establish an identity and attract new members and we were successful, as before the pandemic an addict in my home town could go to one of our meetings every single day of the week. i long ago gave up the whole defender of the FAITH role, and even though the fellowship is going through a bit of chaos these days, because of personalities, i have FAITH that it will survive and return to a place where any addict seeking recovery …
today, after my Mom was admitted to the hospital last night, my plans have to altered, as i have the feeling i need to get over there, see her, speak to the medical professionals who are caring for her and see if i can get a few things in the works. i am still going to my home group, i still worked out this morning and i am still going to Africa in nine days. my niece is taking great care of my Mom as her caregiver, even though she is not trained and my Mom is less than communicative about what her medical needs may be, even though she is quite vocal about what she needs to be comfortable. i do need to step up my game for the next nine days, so i can go away, get off the grid, disconnect from the world and concentrate on summitting the highest mountain in Africa. all of that starts with me posting this to the net, getting in my car and heading out to my home group. life is interesting today and i am okay with living in a bit of uncertainty, just for today.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 2

4) Therefore the sage knows (these things) of himself, but does not
parade (his knowledge); loves, but does not (appear to set a) value
on, himself. And thus he puts the latter alternative away and makes
choice of the former.
