well the reading was one of those that i thought i could just skim past today. this is one of those readings that i remember reading last year and the years before and has never really resonated with me. this morning however i remembered something my sponsor and i talked about when we last got together and this reading in particular sent me off in a new direction. no i am not the infinite inventory type, i like to write my fourth over a seemingly agonizing long period of time, quickly share it and move on through to step ten. if there was a manner that i could go from step four to step ten in an hour, i would be more than grateful to use it. be that as it may, the line that struck me was about being a victim. i still do not like to think of myself as being victimized by active addiction, the behaviors i had to practice to maintain active addiction and the people i had to deal with during active addiction. so here is a line from our literature that speaks subtly to that very idea and i find it a bit disturbing this morning -- that is the idea of don as a victim. but so it goes, i am running late and must run to meet my service commitments, so i will have to let this rumble around inside my head for today and perhaps write more a bit later!

Book 2

1) Man at his birth is supple and weak; at his death, firm and strong.
(So it is with) all things. Trees and plants, in their early growth,
are soft and brittle; at their death, dry and withered.
