∞ a negative attitude dogged me in my active addiction and it can follow me into the rooms ∞

how can i begin to adjust my attitudes? by altering my actions. it is not easy, but it can be done.
today would be a perfect day for a very negative attitude, nothing has gone well from the time i went to bed last night. of course i could moan and whine about how bad this day has been or i could just accept that there is another plan in action today, and that plan is not mine.
so the reading this morning suggests that i can alter by attitude for good or bad by altering my actions. i have heard that concept many times before and i often think about behaving my way into better thinking is kind of a funny way to do things. for this addict that idea seemed counterintuitive at first, but as i took the suggestion and attempted to live i have discovered that it really does work, and it works very well as a matter of fact. that is not the only counterintuitive idea i have run across in recovery, and it is not the only one that has worked, in fact surrendering to the fact that i cannot control most things in my daily existence is something i will have to live with today. yes my plans and little apple cart were upset this morning, and yes i am frustrated and a bit pissy, but if i just accept that i am powerless over electronics and such, i can move on with my day and have a better one. life is good today, even if i have to adjust my attitude by acting grateful. as i contemplate that last statement, gratitude is the key for acting in a positive manner, creating a better environment for those around me, and for myself. anger and resentment towards being powerless will get me nowhere. so off to the showers and perhaps things will work out after i start my day over.

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 1

2) The report of that fulfilment is the regular, unchanging rule.
To know that unchanging rule is to be intelligent; not to know it
leads to wild movements and evil issues. The knowledge of that unchanging
rule produces a (grand) capacity and forbearance, and that capacity
and forbearance lead to a community (of feeling with all things).
From this community of feeling comes a kingliness of character; and
he who is king-like goes on to be heaven-like. In that likeness to
heaven he possesses the Tao. Possessed of the Tao, he endures long;
and to the end of his bodily life, is exempt from all danger of decay.
