λ whatever i can do to return the kindness my sponsor has shown me λ

will enhance my personal recovery. this simple act may bring some joy into the life of my sponsor. it was a very long, tiring and sometimes a bit of a bummer day yesterday. my emotions were on quite a roller-coaster ride and in the long run, i was wore out by the time i hit the pillow. what does any of that have to do with showing my sponsor a bit of kindness? i really do not know, except that was on my mind when i read the reading, as i sat and listened for direction and once again when i started writing this. one more non sequitur that is on my mind is a continuation form my entry yesterday. i find that those that protest the most about never growing up are the ones that are the ones that behave like ancient, crotchety old farts, clucking their tongues, casting judgments for on high and saying things like "when i was…"
one of the things i like about my sponsor, is that when he shares his Experience, Strength and Hope with me, either one on one, or in a group, i never feel like i am being lectured to, or like some sort of recalcitrant brat, that refuses to get this stuff. he has the ability to put what he felt back then into terms that are both personal and personable, and even though i do not want to hear what he is trying to tell me, i cannot help but listen. i try and take this into the times when i am sharing my Experience, Strength and Hope with the men i sponsor, so they too, can get what i am trying to say.
so where does this leave me? well for one, in a little bit i will give my sponse a jingle just to let him know i am thinking about him and express my gratitude for all he has given me. other than that i do believe i will hit the dungeon and work off some of the calories i have put on over the past two days of enforced relation, so to speak. it is a good day to be in recovery and i am grateful that i have a way out from the darkness of active addiction, at least just for today.

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 2

3) He who acts (with an ulterior purpose) does harm; he who takes
hold of a thing (in the same way) loses his hold. The sage does not
act (so), and therefore does no harm; he does not lay hold (so), and
therefore does not lose his bold. (But) people in their conduct of
affairs are constantly ruining them when they are on the eve of success.
If they were careful at the end, as (they should be) at the beginning,
they would not so ruin them.
