↔ the real source of joy ↔

if one were to believe popular media, then i would need more. bigger cars, bigger houses, a younger appearance, more toys and an ever increasing source of funding my joy. the treadmill of joy would be based on an inventory of all the possessions i have accumulated and when found lacking i would have to accumulate more and more and more and more....
the reading this morning is a contrary viewpoint to popular culture. it tells me that i need no possessions of any type to find joy and even goes on to point out that the activity of accumulation, will bring no joy into my life. the best part, for me anyhow, is that the meditation describes the manner in which i can find joy regardless of the current state of my bank balance. it is more than ironic, that after a few years clean i already have all of the things that i need to find joy -- i do service, i am an active part of the fellowship and i have a constantly evolving relationship with THE POWER THAT KEEPS ME CLEAN AND PROVIDES FOR ALL MY NEEDS. so if i am not finding joy, i am overlooking those very things that not only keep me coming back, but comprise the larger part of the list of ways to discover joy in my life today.
so what to do??? well if i do not FEEL joy today i can run to amazon.com or the mall and BUY something, or i can take a moment, look inside myself and see those things i already have to be joyful about. some choice n'est-ce pas??

1) The ancients who showed their skill in practising the Tao did so,
not to enlighten the people, but rather to make them simple and ignorant.
