✌ through the eyes ✌

of others. a couple of things hit me this morning as i sat down to listen. the first being my response to those who seem to think that social media is the appropriate place to reach out for such things as rides to meetings or places to stay. it seems that those on the margins are more apt to do so, and then they whine bitterly that no one came to their rescue. it seems their expectations is that my peers and i, spend all day, every day, trolling social media for such requests and when they are found, instantly drop whatever it is we happen to be doing and fulfill their requests. of course, when that expectation is not met, we are painted as non-caring jerks, who are not offering yet another hand out, to the complaining party, providing even more evidence that this whole recovery gig is nothing but a farce. what ever happened to reaching out to those who took the time to write down their phone numbers, on those meeting lists that are circulated at every meeting. it almost seems as if those who use this impersonal means of asking, are too afraid to make a call, or text someone with their request. it is important enough for them to post on social media, but not to actually reach out and contact someone. where does the notion of taking responsibility for their recovery come into play? perhaps i am being a bit harsh, after all, those on the margins are the most apt to be looking for any excuse to be on the outs. it is not that i believe they do not want recovery, nor do i believe they are lazy, i just think it is their addiction taking hold and keeping them form doing what has kept so many in recovery for so long, actually creating a support network in the rooms.
moving on, judging myself through the eyes of others is one of my number one favorite character defects based on how often i do it. asking for input and feedback about others see, not so much, after all, like my peers that i just whined about i could be putting myself into a dangerously emotional situation of actually having to do something for recovery. besides, i already know what they think, as i am the great and powerful Don, and have already seen through the eyes what i look like and how i am behaving and found myself wanting.
so yes i will take the reading heart and allow my friends and peers to say what they need to say. i may even listen to what it is they are telling me. it is a good day to be clean and certainly a good day to allow myself to progress in my own personal growth.

3) He who lightly promises is sure to keep but little faith; he who
is continually thinking things easy is sure to find them difficult.
Therefore the sage sees difficulty even in what seems easy, and so
never has any difficulties.
