tightly to my rebelliousness and then find myself celebrating a year clean, then five years, then a quarter-century, wondering how the heck did this happen. of course that question is rhetorical, as i know exactly how that happened. i found something that worked as a daily routine and implemented it into my life with an obsession that i brought forward with me from active addiction. as one who reads this on a regular basis can tell, i am no longer a “defender of the faith” when it come so the fellowship and can find fault in what i has been given to me in the the written word and oral tradition. do not get me wrong, i have FAITH that the prof-gram that i follow does provide me what i need to ,live a life clean, as evidenced by the number of just for todays, i have piled up. what i do not adhere to is a strict and literal reading of what is written and certainly not the opinions of some of my predecessors when it comes to interpreting the written word.
by keeping an open mind and listening to all of my peers, i can certainly see that some of what i was once fed as the “gospel truth” was not that at all, it was the twisted opinion of that member and one that, at betimes, led me down corridors of darkness that were not necessary for me to recover, that experience, however, made me more flexible and encouraged me to ask questions and think for myself. i know for certain that i am clean because of that written word and the oral tradition that was passed on to me. i filter that tradition to how i see things and pass it down altered to fit the world as i see it. being one of the OGs, i see that is more than likely how i received it, or at least i hope so. i have FAITH that my predecessors had the nerve and the intelligence to rationally consider what they were told and make it their own, just as i do in the present tense. it is after all, that FAITH that keeps me coming back and coming back clean, just for today.
