∞ acceptance of myself means accepting all aspects of myself ∞

my assets, my defects, my successes, and my failures. what a day, i usually write this first thing in the morning, but circumstances forced to defer until now, writing down my thoughts. in the context of my step work last night, this reading rings so true this afternoon. as i sit between step cycles, i can see where i have come from with such clarity that it amazes me. it feels like this step cycle brought upon me the greatest change since the day i decided to accept that i was a member and i was willing to do whatever it took to stay clean and find a new of living. that day was not after my first meeting, nor was it the day i got clean and started working the program. it took thirteen months and a set of steps before i finally got to that point and because of the fellowship and a loving Higher Power, and of course some severe legal consequences for me, i DID not use and got to the place where i could actually allow this process to happen.
i am digressing however, and what i was starting to say, was that this set of steps feels like the greatest amount of change for me, especially around the area of accepting who i am, with all of the parts and pieces that made me who i am, and is shaping the course of my recovery. today i can see that i am on the right path, and even though i am exhausted from driving all over the Eastern plains of Colorado to pick-up a friend from prison and return him to home, i can see that i am greater than the sum of those pieces and parts. i can accept my past, use it in the here and now as part of my message and allow it to shape my future. so off to a bit of relaxation before my next round of activity.
