i will strive to keep it simple when making amends. anyhow, making amends is a great topic and one that i could certainly write about at length this morning. i am however not in a mood to parrot the party line, nor say what a wonderful experience making amends was for me, although the party line and my experience with amends are true facts. i will finish off that particular topic with this thought: i have made my share of amends and expect to make many more across the course of my recovery, i strive to be succinct and direct when making them and although most have been accepted, there are many more that are languishing in some other time warp, waiting for the correct time.
what is on my mind this morning, is my visit to the east coast. it was fun last night hanging out in Georgetown and even though i was too tired to properly calculate a tip, some waiter is very happy at my exhausted attempt to reward his service to us. oh well, that is just part of the karmic journey, whether or not my generosity comes back is something beyond my control and therefore not worth fretting about. all the anxiety of being within 10 miles of the old hood, seems like such a waste of energy now, i did however have one of my deepest and most profound sessions of meditation this morning, before starting my day, which is surprising, considering how difficult it was for me to stay asleep. once again, interesting, but not galaxy-quaking. in fact, that is a lot of what is going on today, lots of interesting and wonderful and very little heinous and tedious. as an addict, it makes me wonder when the next shoe is going to drop! and i could certainly stay there, or i can do what i heard when i listened this morning, let go and allow things to happen as they will, and i CHOOSE letting go, just for right now.
so time to shower off and get ready for our bike ride to the National Mall, it is a wonderful day to be clean!

☯ The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao ☯

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS
by Lao-Tse
Translated by James Legge

Book 2

He who in (Tao's) wars has skill
Assumes no martial port;
He who fights with most good will
To rage makes no resort.
He who vanquishes yet still
Keeps from his foes apart;
He whose hests men most fulfil
Yet humbly plies his art.

Thus we say, 'He ne'er contends,
And therein is his might.'
Thus we say, 'Men's wills he bends,
That they with him unite.'
Thus we say, 'Like Heaven's his ends,
No sage of old more bright.'
