π doing my best π

nothing is more humbling than getting passed in a race, at least in my mind. i know that is just the way it is, when one is in a race with forty thousand people or so, the chances of getting passed, no matter how well i am doing, are one hundred percent. when i believe otherwise, i lose. it is not unlike me, comparing my internal state of being with my peers’ external state of being. i am going to come up a loser almost every single time. what i do know, is that i ran a sub 60 minute 10K today and that is my best time since my Kilimanjaro injury. i also am quite sure that i ran my best today and perhaps, later in the season i will try another 10K to see if i can do better.
spiritually, i am okay today. i am tired from my run and from my short amount of sleep last night and sitting on my patio, enjoying a cigar feels like the next correct thing to do. my spiritual fitness tracker indicates that as well, as i did not whine in my head about getting cut off by some of my fellow runners, who were not paying attention to what was going on around them. i also waited in line to get my T-shirt and did not get all hot and bothered. i even drove far slower going home than i usually do. all of those plus the satisfaction i feel right now are symptoms of a state that resembles serenity. is it humility? an excellent question! i ran! i waited. i ate breakfast. i meditated. i am writing this now, rather than moaning about how much better i might have been able to do. the most important thing i take away this morning is yes, i can do hard things and i do not deserve a medal or a pat on the back, even though either one would feel good. i ran for me and just for today, that is more than good enough for me.
