appreciate the peace of mind and freedom when i consistently work on my spiritual fitness. my spouse would say that i am obsessive about my daily recovery routine and she may not be wrong. i see it as something that simply works for me and has worked for over a decade, in its current form. that does not mean it could be improved upon and i am always willing to take a look at adding to it. what i am not willing to do, is subtract any single thing from it. i have learned from my lapse in that routine on my African trek to the summit of Kilimanjaro, that slacking on my routine is dangerous to my spiritual fitness.
i started this morning before i went to my job and got obsessed with my project and ran out of time, imagine that! 🤣
as i sit here late this afternoon, what i remember from this morning was sense of my source material telling me something i already knew and implement on a daily basis. it also took a darker turn into how one day of lapse may turn into something darker and far worse. although i have a healthy fear of relapse, it is not my driving force when it comes to my spiritual practice. the desire to use is not an every day or even an every month occurrence, but it does creep in, when i start to worry about stuff i have little or no power over. my prostate cancer is still there and i still have semi-annual checkups with a dermatologist and an oncologist. those are the facts of life i live with today and sometimes my “what-iffer” goes into overdrive. that is when i am grateful for my daily practice and my strict adherence to that routine, no matter how the day begins. in those moments i hear the quiet and i get a sense that even if everything appears to be going wrong, nothing is fucked, just for today. that is more than enough for me.
