๐ treating others ๐

with kindness is like an **ounce of prevention,** it lowers my risk of doing or saying something i will regret and it has the added benefit that i will not have to make as many amends. okay, i have to admit i got more than a bit distracted by looking at cigar deals. in reality, my humidors are full and i do not “need” to buy anymore. getting back to the issue at hand, as it were, i can say that at least since coming to recovery, the number of regrets i have had, as a result of being kind, has fallen to practically nil. that does not mean that my kindness has not been seen as weakness in some cases and i have been stomped into the ground. since i no longer hang with addicts in active addiction, that happens a whole lot less.
today, one of the things i consider before saying or doing something, is whether or not i want to have to come back to this person and admit i was wrong. i know i have said it in the past, but it is worth repeating now; I HATE TO BE WRONG! that mantra is one of the few that work me over as i walk through my day, the other being: if i want to be treated with kindness, i have to treat those i encounter in my daily travels with kindness, expecting nothing in return. the former is easy-peasey, the latter, well, not so much. nevertheless, it does help guide me to a better way of behaving in the here and now.
since i wrote this yesterday, i have entered a courting with a new consulting firm, that may bring me to an opportunity that would be something i may have been working for, all these years. of course, the grass is always greener on the other side and i am not blowing this up to being something larger than it is. in these uncertain times, i know that i have a job through the end of the year, so i do not need to jump on one, until it is “in the bag.” it certainly looks as if it is something i would have a strong interest in doing, as i would be working with scientists and engineers and not cable guys. things may move quickly, but right here and right now, just for today, i need to be kind to my current employer and get some work completed. it is a great day to remember being kind costs nothing.
