↔  carry the message, not the addict ↔

for me, this has always been a very fine line. i sometimes feel that there has to be more that i can do to help those i see suffering from the twits and turns of trying to get clean. intellectually i accept that i am powerless over the disease of addiction, not only in my myself, but in everyone else as well. emotionally i find this hard to face, not for myself, i have seen the evidence that i am powerless over the disease. in others however, i seem to feel that i can make a difference and often do something that goes against a spiritual principle or two, trying to beat their disease. i know this goes back to defects of my character and shortcomings. even though i have evidence that i cannot force anyone to surrender, live in the moment or recover, somewhere inside of me there is a part that refuses to accept this, but this too will change as i progress forward through the process of recovery.
the truth is that not only can i not fix myself, i cannot fix anyone else. i can however be present, say all those things i know are true and correct like; "do what is in front of you and let go of the rest." it is up to the receiver of the message to take it to heart and try to apply it!

THE TAO TEH KING, OR THE TAO AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS

Book 1

1) There was something undefined and complete, coming into existence
before Heaven and Earth. How still it was and formless, standing alone,
and undergoing no change, reaching everywhere and in no danger (of
being exhausted)! It may be regarded as the Mother of all things.
