a simple joy

one of the greatest gifts i get from sticking around for a few days is witnessing those who came to recovery after me, grow and recover. after watching the seemingly endless stream of addicts go in and out over and over again, i get more than a little disheartened, and begin to wonder if there is something i am missing. and then it happens, someone new "gets" it and stays clean. then i get the gift of watching a zombie get the life they never had. for me this is one of the greatest joys i have ever experienced and lightens the burden of watching the revolving door and wondering if i am unique. each time i witness the opening of a closed mind and the freeing of the spirit that recovery brings each of us, i remember that i too can go back out that revolving door, but just for today i do not have to.
