the recovery of other addicts.
confession time. when i first read this entry all those days ago, i NEVER would have believed that i would still be reading this after so many days clean. had self-will ruled when the sword was lifted, sitting on a bus to Denver, typing a blog, would not have been my reality, much less finding joy in watching others recover. i am grateful that when that event occurred, i was deep enough in the recovery process, that i GET to live today and have the life i have. there is a catch, however, being part of this process, means there is pain in watching someone in the grips of relapse, just waiting for the moment when using feels like a good idea. i currently know and care for an few addicts who are in that sad state, BUT until they invite me to help, i am powerless top do anything but be a spectator.
there is one addict i need to call out today:

Reece, my friend and sponsee,
11 years of one day at a times
AWESOME JOB!

where was i? oh yeah, lamenting about stuff i have no power over and ignoring the joy of watching this process work. returning my focus to the her and now, i can see that it is a miracle i am part of the life of anyone else, much less a respected and honored part. how do i really celebrate the joy i feel watching addicts survive early recovery and find a new manner to live? birthday cake, applause, and taking them out is the material part of the celebration, but what about the emotional and spiritual part? i guess letting them know how i feel, in the here and now is a great start. inviting them to be a part of my life is another. after that who knows? it is true that i have become a bit distant to many newcomers these days, especially those who recycle every 30 days. accepting that they CAN do this gig and giving them a bit of encouragement, may allow me to be a part of their miracle, when they finally get it. i will allow myself to be joyous when they get some time and who knows, perhaps they too will find what i have found here: a life far more rewarding than i ever dreamed possible,
